State Fair Community College (SFCC) opened their 2024 season with a 5-4 loss to Des Moines Area Community College at the Southeastern Community College Turf Tournament on Friday, February 16.

February 16 Des Moines Area Community College at Southeastern Turf Tournament
State Fair Community College (SFCC) opened their 2024 season with a 5-4 loss to Des Moines Area Community College at the Southeastern Community College Turf Tournament on Friday, February 16.
Des Moines Area led 5-1 going into the top of the seventh inning. The SFCC offense scored three runs but was unable to tie the game.
Catcher Paige Klinge led the SFCC offense with a pair of hits, including one double, and one RBI. Middle infielder/outfielder Emily Burke added a triple, two RBIs, and a run scored. Outfielder Jaelyn Winfrey had a hit and a run scored. Middle infielder Sami Picha also scored a run, along with utility player Bella Ochoa. Winfrey and Burke recorded one stolen base each in the game.
Pitcher/utility player Aireanna Hoeppner got the start in the circle for SFCC. Hoeppner pitched five innings, gave up five runs on 11 hits, and struck out two. Pitcher/first baseman Kiara Sodini pitched the final inning for SFCC. Sodini allowed two hits and struck out one.
February 16 Southeastern Community College Community College at Southeastern Turf Tournament
SFCC lost 12-2 to Southeastern Community College in their second game at the Southeastern Turf Tournament on Friday, February 16
SFCC was held to just three hits. Klinge had a pair of hits, including a double and an RBI. Winfrey also had one hit, along with two stolen bases. Catcher/third baseman Lia Hill and Hoeppner scored a run each. Sodini drove in a run. Ochoa also stole a base.
Pitcher Grace VanDenburgh got the start for SFCC. VanDenburgh pitched 1 1/3 innings, gave up five runs, one earned run on three hits.
February 17 North Iowa Area Community College at Southeastern Turf Tournament
SFCC fell to North Iowa Area Community College 10-2 in five innings on Saturday, February 17 at the Southeastern Turf Tournament.
Klinge registered two hits and one RBI. Burke had one hit. Ochoa had one hit and one run batted in. Outfielder Becca Hall and middle infielder/outfielder Jordan Crooks scored one run each. Hall also recorded one stolen base.
Pitcher Charlee Reese got the start for SFCC and gave up nine runs on 13 hits in four innings. VanDenburgh came out of the bullpen to give up one run on one hit.
February 17 Kirkwood Community College at Southeastern Turf Tournament
SFCC (0-4) fell in their final game 17-0 to Kirkwood Community College on Saturday, February 17.
Third baseman Myla Inman and utility player Bailey Haselhorst had the only two hits for SFCC. Haselhorst recorded one double. Crooks stole one base.
VanDenburgh got the start for SFCC and allowed four runs on four hits, and struck out one in one inning. Hoeppner pitched two innings in relief, gave up five runs on three hits and struck out one. Sodini pitched two innings and gave up eight runs, five earned runs on seven hits. SFCC walked 10 batters in the game.
