The State Fair Community College (SFCC) softball team has announced three student-athletes have earned postseason accolades from Region 16 and the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference. The awards were voted on by the coaches in the region and in the conference.
All three of the student-athletes had their ups and downs this season," said Lady Roadrunners Head Softball Coach Lyndsey Talbot. "I believe that these awards show their overall body of work and how much they meant to our team."
Freshman infielder Kelsey Webb of Oak Grove has been named First-Team All-Region as an infielder and First-Team All-Conference. Webb finished first on the team with 63 hits, 10 homeruns, 37 runs scored, 12 doubles, and a .686 slugging percentage. Webb finished second on the team with .412 batting average and 34 RBI. Webb also had a .455 on base percentage.
"Kelsey Webb being named to the First-Team in the infield is a big deal," said Talbot. "She was consistent in everything we asked her to do."
Freshman outfielder Ellie Eckert of Auxvasse was named First-Team All-Conference and Second-Team All-Region in the outfield. Eckert led the team with 10 stolen bases. Eckert led the team with a .423 batting average and tied for the team lead in triples with three. Eckert finished second on the team with 35 runs and 47 hits. Eckert had a .454 on-base percentage.
"Ellie had a great year at the plate for us," said Talbot. "She broke her finger during the season, so her numbers towards the end of the season were not what she wanted but, I also wanted to make sure that she was able to appreciate what she did during her freshman season in a particularly good region."
Sophomore infielder Alexis Gilliland of Jefferson City was named Second-Team All-Region as a utility player and Honorable Mention All-Conference. Gilliland played in only 33 games with 98 at bats returning from an injury with 35 hits. Despite the injury, Gilliland still finished fourth on the team with a .357 batting average and third on the team with eight home runs, eight doubles and 30 RBI.
"Alexis has a lot of natural skill," said Talbot. "You have to have natural skill to overcome the kind of injury she sustained. I'm looking forward to her having a healthy summer. When she is out there, she is one of the most competitive people on the team."
