April 18, St. Charles Community College at Cottleville, Missouri
The Lady Roadrunners split a doubleheader with the Lady Cougars in Region 16 play April 18. St. Charles won the first game 6-1; State Fair won second game 9-4.
In game one, both teams scored a run in the first inning. St. Charles added a run in the second inning and added four in the sixth inning.
Sophomore catcher/infielder Sarah McAninch led the Lady Roadrunners with two hits and an RBI. Sophomore outfielder Kalee Shumaker scored a run. Freshman infielder Sydnee Cotter, freshman utility player Mikayla Gustin and freshman pitcher/first baseman Madison Harris all recorded one hit.
Freshman pitcher MacKenze Gudde went the distance in the circle. She allowed six runs with four earned runs and took the loss.
In game two, SFCC scored two runs in the first inning and three in the second. The State Fair tacked on three in the fourth inning. St. Charles scored one run in the fifth inning. SFCC added one run in the top of the sixth, and St. Charles added three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Cotter led SFCC with three hits. She scored three runs and drove in two. Shumaker had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Gudde had two hits and drove in a team-high four RBIs. Harris and freshman pitcher/outfielder Emily Ross had two hits each. Harris scored a run, and Ross scored twice.
Ross threw a complete game for SFCC. She allowed four runs with no earned runs and struck out three.
April 20, Metropolitan Community College-Maple Woods at Mandy Thomas Field in Centennial Park
The Metropolitan Community College-Maple Woods Monarchs swept State Fair in the doubleheader 9-3 and 8-0.
In game one, Maple Woods scored a run in the top of the first inning and added two in the top of the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Maple Woods scored six runs in the top of the seventh to lead 9-0.
SFCC tried to come back, scoring three runs in the bottom the seventh inning. Harris, Wilkerson and freshman outfielder Shelby Sprinkle drove in runs for SFCC.
Harris had two hits; McAninch, Ross and Harris scored runs. Gudde pitched a complete game and took the loss, allowing nine runs and six earned runs.
In game two, Maple Woods scored first with a two-run homerun and added two in the top of the third inning and a single run in the fifth. Maple Woods finished scoring with three runs in the sixth. The game ended in six innings because of the run rule.
Shumaker, Cotter, Harris and Wilkerson each had one hit in the game. Shumaker walked twice.
Ross went the distance as pitcher, allowing eight runs, seven earned runs and striking out six.
After the doubleheader, the Lady Roadrunners honored Shumaker and McAninch who made up the first sophomore class in the history of the program.
April 21, Central Methodist University JV, at Fayette, Missouri
SFCC swept the doubleheader against CMU's JV 6-0 and 11-2.
In game one, SFCC scored two runs in the second inning and added one in the fourth and three in the fifth inning.
Shumaker had two hits and two runs scored. Cotter had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Gudde pitched in with two hits and two RBIs. Harris contributed two hits and an RBI. Wilkerson had two hits.
Gudde tossed a complete game shutout, allowing three hits and striking out seven for the win.
In game two, SFCC scored first with two runs in the second inning and added one in the third and two in the fourth. The offense exploded for six runs in the seventh inning to put the game away.
SFCC pounded out 13 hits in the contest. Ross led with four hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Gudde had three hits and a run scored. Gustin had two hits, three runs scored and three RBIs. She also hit a homerun.
Ross pitched a complete game, scattering six hits, allowing two unearned runs and striking out eight.
On Sunday, April 23, the Lady Roadrunners closed out the regular season with a pair of games against the Three Rivers Community College Lady Raiders. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday, but were moved to Sunday because of weather. The games were played at Van Buren High School. Three Rivers swept the Lady Roadrunners 8-0 in five innings, and 6-5 in eight innings.
April 23, Three Rivers Community College at Van Buren, Missouri
State Fair closed out the regular season with a doubleheader against TRCC Lady Raiders. The games were originally scheduled for April 22 but moved to the 23rd because of weather.
In game one, Three Rivers got the win 8-0, scoring two runs in the first inning, two in the second and three in the third and one in the fifth.
Wilkerson and Sprinkle recorded the only two hits for SFCC. Gudde took the loss for SFCC.
In game two, each team scored a run in the first inning. Three Rivers took the lead with a run in the third. SFCC scored a run in the top of the fifth. Three Rivers responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Lady Raiders added one in the sixth. SFCC scored three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at five. SFCC held Three Rivers scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. SFCC did not score in the top of the eighth, but Three Rivers scored a run in the bottom the eighth for the win 6-5.
Shumaker, Gudde and Sprinkle each had two hits. Sprinkle also scored two runs. Shumaker, Cotter, Gudde and Sprinkle each hit in a run.
Ross pitched and allowed six runs and five earned runs, struck out three and took the loss.
SFCC will play in the Region 16 tournament on April 28 at Battle High School in Columbia. The opponent and game time for SFCC are still to be determined. The Lady Roadrunners record stands at 10-36, 2-24 in Region 16.
