Softball recaps April 11-15

April 11, Mineral Area College (MAC) at Mandy Thomas Field, Centennial Park

In a doubleheader, the MAC Lady Cardinals swept the Lady Roadrunners 12-4 and 10-3. 

MAC scored first with two runs in the first inning of game one. The Lady Roadrunners loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning with no outs but could not score. MAC scored two runs in the third and added six in the fifth inning to control the game. 

SFCC scored three runs in the fifth inning, and MAC responded with two solo homeruns in the sixth to make the score 12-3. Freshman pitcher/outfielder MacKenze Gudde answered with a solo homerun to center in the sixth to end the game 12-4 in MAC's favor.  

Gudde pitched 4 2/3 innings and took the loss for SFCC. Freshman utility player Mikayla Gustin had two hits and a run scored. Sophomore catcher/infielder Sarah McAninch had two hits and an RBI. 

In game two, MAC scored a run in the third inning and added two in the fourth. The Lady Roadrunners scored a run in the bottom of the fourth when freshman pitcher/first baseman Madison Harris hit a ball off the outfield fence to drive in McAninch. MAC responded with two runs in the fifth, one run in the sixth and four runs in the seventh to extend their lead 10-1. 

SFCC added two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Freshman Anna Mae Wilkerson hit a one-out solo homerun to center field. Sophomore outfielder Kalee Shumaker slapped a base hit to center field and advanced to second base on an MAC defensive error. Gudde doubled off the wall to score Shumaker, and SFCC could not score any more. 

Freshman outfielder Shelby Sprinkle had a pair of hits in game two. Freshman pitcher Emily Ross went the distance for SFCC, striking out five batters. Ross took the loss for the Lady Roadrunners. 

April 12, North Central Missouri College (NCMC) at Trenton

SFCC traveled to Trenton to take on NCMC in a Region 16 doubleheader. 

In game one, State Fair scored first with a single run in the second inning. North Central responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. State Fair added a run in the top of the third. North Central scored two runs in the third and four in the fifth to win the game by the run rule 10-2 in five innings. 

McAninch led the SFCC offense with two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Gustin scored a run. 

Gudde got the start in the circle for SFCC. She pitched 4 2/3 innings and took the loss. 

In game two, SFCC scored first with two runs in the opening inning. North Central scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and tacked on four runs in the fifth to win the game 7-2. 

Gustin led SFCC offensively with three hits, a run scored and an RBI. Sophomore outfielder Shumaker added a hit and a run scored. McAninch and Harris had a hit each. 

Harris pitched six innings, struck out three and took the loss for SFCC. 

April 14, Three Rivers Community College (TRCC) at Mandy Thomas Field, Centennial Park

The Lady Roadrunners hosted the TRCC Lady Raiders in an important Region 16 doubleheader. The Lady Raiders won game one 6-3, and SFCC won game two 2-0, the first Division I Region 16 victory in the history of the program. 

In game one, the Lady Raiders scored a run in the top of the first inning and added a run in the second inning. SFCC tied the game in the bottom of the third when Sprinkle reached first base with a one-out hit. An infield hit from Shumaker put runners at first and second; both scored on a double by Gudde who advanced to third when TRCC attempted to throw Shumaker out the plate. Gudde scored on a sacrifice fly by Gustin to put SFCC up 3-2 

The Lady Raiders tied the game at three with a run in the fourth inning and took control of the game with three runs in the top of the seventh. 

Shumaker, Gudde, Gustin and Harris each recorded a hit for SFCC. Shumaker, Gudde and Sprinkle scored a run each. 

Gudde went the distance in the circle for SFCC. She allowed six runs and only one earned run for the loss. 

In game two, SFCC scored a run in the second and third innings. Shumaker had a hit and run scored. McAninch scored a run. Freshman catcher/infielder Anna Mae Wilkerson drove in a run. Harris recorded a hit and a RBI. Sprinkle also had a hit. 

Ross went the distance for SFCC in the circle. She scattered nine hits and struck out three batters. 

April 15, Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) at Mandy Thomas Field, Centennial Park

SFCC hosted IWCC in a doubleheader. Iowa Western won both games 5-0 and 10-0 in five innings because of the run rule. 

In game one, Iowa Western scored one run in the third inning, three in the fifth and one in the sixth. 

Shumaker and Wilkerson had the only hits for SFCC. Gudde went the distance on the mound, allowing five runs and striking out two. 

In the second game, IWCC scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second and two in the third to control the game. 

Gudde and Ross had the only hits for SFCC. Ross got the start in the circle and pitched three innings, striking out two and taking the loss. 

The Lady Roadrunners record stands at 7-31, 1-19 in Region 16.
