SFCC Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season with Strong Performances
The State Fair Community College track and field teams earned 16 top-eight finishes at the CMU Open on Saturday, March 15.

FAYETTE, Mo. – The State Fair Community College track and field teams earned 16 top-eight finishes at the CMU Open on Saturday, March 15.
Sophomore Isaiah Waller of Versailles won the discus with a throw of 50.21 meters, a collegiate best. Freshman Legend Freelon of Kansas City won the high jump, clearing 1.96 meters for a personal best. Freshman Tucker Singer of Tina took first in the shot put with a throw of 16.88 meters.
Waller also finished second in the hammer throw at 53.40 meters.
Freshman Zack Cross of Newtown placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a collegiate-best time of 56.83 seconds. Sophomore Peyton Ligon of Ozark took third in the high jump, clearing 1.91 meters. Freshman Zeshaun Ballance-Gray of Kansas City placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 13.50 meters.
Sophomore Jasper DeGraffenreid of Eldon finished sixth in the shot put with a collegiate-best throw of 14.89 meters. Freshman Demarii Williams of Rolla placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 14.46 meters.
Cross also finished eighth in the high jump, clearing 1.76 meters, a personal best.
The Lady Roadrunners earned six top-eight finishes. Freshman Laiysha Freeman of Kansas City led the way, winning the long jump with a personal-best mark of 5.50 meters.
Freshman Bethany Slovensky of New Florence finished third in the long jump with a collegiate-best jump of 5.13 meters.
Freshman Izzy Sabala of Hermitage placed fifth in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 32.82 meters.
Slovensky also finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a collegiate-best time of 16.68 seconds. Sophomore Claire Nichols of Charleston placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 30.72 meters.
Freshman Nora Moreno of Versailles finished seventh in the 100 meters, running a personal-best 13.37 seconds.
"Everyone was excited to get outdoors for our first meet," head coach Brad Hagedorn said. "We were highly successful and came away with several event wins.We broke six school records at the meet across both teams. I want to congratulate Isaiah Waller for qualifying in the discus and hammer and Tucker Singer for qualifying in the shot put for our outdoor national championships."
