Roadrunners close regular season at Shocker Open

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners track and field team claimed 13 top-eight finishes at the Shocker Open hosted by Wichita State University inside Cessna Stadium on Friday, May 3.

Freshman Jasper Degraffenreid of Eldon recorded the best individual finish for the Roadrunners. Degraffenreid won the shot put with a throw of 14.61 meters. Degraffenreid finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 34.93 meters.

Freshman Glen Holt of Dawn finished second in the shot put with a throw of 13.39 meters. Freshman Isaiah Waller of Versailles finished second in the discus with a throw of 46.46 meters. The 4 x 100m relay team for the Roadrunners consisting of freshman Ross Johnson of Lincoln; freshman David Leon of California, Missouri; freshman Mario Nunez of Belton; and freshman Isaac Philips of Raymore finished second in a time of 45.22.

Johnson finished third in the triple jump with a jump of 11.48 meters. Sophomore Keyton Laire of Norborne finished third in the discus with a throw of 40.72 meters.

Freshman Sebastian Meyer of Kansas City finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 10.23 meters. Meyer also finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 35.16 meters.

Holt finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 33.88 meters. Freshman Justin Horn of Hermitage finished seventh in the 1500m with a time of 4:19.11.

Freshman Jaden Velando of Sedalia finished eighth in the long jump with a jump of 4.66 meters. Sophomore Addison Richards finished eighth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.02.

"Wichita marked the end of our regular season," said Head Coach Brad Hagedorn. "Again, we showed our mental toughness by continuing with consistent performances. Many of our kids set personal bests against some really good competition. We will spend the next week getting ready for Nationals in Monroe, Louisiana."
