SFCC competes at Shocker Open

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) track and field teams competed at their final competition before the NJCAA Division I National Championships at the Shocker Open at Cessna Stadium in Wichita, Kansas on Friday, May 6.

Freshman Ty Lewis finished first in the men's 800m with a time of 2:00.13. Lewis finished third in the men's 1500m with a time of 4:31.30.   

Freshman Wyatt Irwin finished second in the men's high jump with a jump of 2.06 meters. Freshman Landon Mason finished third in the men's shot put with a throw of 12.09 meters. Mason also finished eighth in the men's hammer throw with a throw 26.30 meters and ninth in the men's discus with a throw of 39.78 meters.

Freshman Ethan Sims finished third in the men's 400m with a time of 55.53. Sims also placed sixth in the men's javelin throw with a distance of 42.77 meters. Sophomore Zac Anderson finished fourth in the men's 100m with a time of 11.16.

Freshman Ryan Smith finished third in the men's 800m with a time of 2:08.62. Smith also finished fifth in the men's 1500m with a time of 4:33.24. Sophomore Zach Dyer finished fourth in the men's 800m with the time of 2:11.41. Dyer finished sixth in the men's 1500m with a time of 4:33.77. Freshman Juan Herrera finished fifth in the 800m with a time of 2:12.70. Herrera finished seventh in the men's 1500m with a time of 4:44.02. Freshman Logan Shaw finished sixth in the men's 800m in a time of 2:20.26. Shaw placed ninth in the men's 1500m with a time of 4:53.83. Freshman Nathan Gemechu placed eighth in the 1500m run with a time of 4:51.01.

Freshman Ella Golden led the Lady Roadrunners with a second-place finish in the women's 100m with a time of 12.76. Golden also finished fifth in the women's 200m with a time of 27.01. Freshman Zyaire Robinson finished third in the women's 100m with a time of 13.20. Robinson finished sixth in the women's 200m with a time of 29.11. Freshman Paige Spencer finished third in the women's 400m with a time of 1:06.56.

"We had a great day," said SFCC Head Coach Brad Hagedorn. "Ethan Sims threw a career best in the javelin. Wyatt jumped a career best in the high Jump. Ella Golden ran a collegiate best in the 100 meters. Ty Lewis ran a career best in the 800 meters. It was a nice way to conclude our first regular season. We are very excited to head to the National Championships in Hutchinson, Kansas in two weeks."
