September 13 Missouri Valley College at Sedalia
SFCC lost an exhibition match to Missouri Valley College 7-1 inside the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex in Sedalia on Friday afternoon, September 13.
Missouri Valley scored six goals in the first to take control of the contest.
"In the first half, we played some guys that we wanted to take a look at," said Head Coach Michael Poropat. "We wanted to get some of the younger guys some playing time. Our lineup in the first half was entirely made up of freshmen. They need playing time to get experience and to improve. Unfortunately, because they are young, there were a few mistakes that young players make. Our more experienced guys played in the second half, and it was little more even. We use exhibition matches like this to get our younger guys more experience to be more prepared for games down the road this year, and we also are always thinking about next year as well."
SFCC got on the scoreboard with about 18 minutes to go in the second half with a goal from freshman Ethan Taylor to make the score 6-1. Missouri Valley would add one more goal to provide the winning margin.
Tafani started as goalkeeper for SFCC.
September 15 Central Methodist University at Sedalia
SFCC (0-6, 0-2 in Region 16) won an exhibition match over Central Methodist University 5-1 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex on Sunday, September 15.
Central Methodist took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The SFCC offense exploded for five goals in the second half to claim the exhibition victory. The goals for SFCC were scored by McCollin, Phillips, freshman Denton Tyas, sophomore Jervan Matthew and freshman Morgan Spilker.
Tafani got the start in goal for SFCC.
"We approached the game the same way we did on Friday," said Poropat. "In the first half we played a lot of players who usually don't get a lot of minutes, in order to give them the ability to earn more
playing time. Today we had another opportunity to face another four-year university. This gives the players an opportunity to see what that looks like."
