Roadrunners fall in Region quarterfinal

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners (4-9-2) saw their season come to an end in heartbreaking fashion with a 2-1 loss to East Central College in Union, Missouri on Saturday, Oct. 22.

SFCC scored first with a goal from sophomore Andry Salazar with an assist from freshman Ben Bailie. SFCC took the 1-0 lead into halftime. East Central tied the match in the 64th minute and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 77th minute.

"We played a pretty dominant first half," said Roadrunners Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "The wind picked up a lot in the second half and was a factor. We had some struggles getting out of our half of the field."

SFCC closed the season with four wins, nine losses and two ties.

"It was a tough season in the sense that we had a lot of young players," said Beltran. "When we made mistakes, we struggled a little bit to recover, but we were really close. We will miss our excellent group of sophomores, but we have about 30 guys who are eligible to come back next year. If we bring that core back, we will be a very experienced team next year."
