Three Roadrunners earn All-Region recognition

Three student-athletes on the State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners men's soccer team have earned All-Region 16 recognition. Defender Malachi Cotter and midfielder Tebello Ntene earned First-Team honors and freshman midfielder Zakariya Abdi was named to the Second-Team. The trio helped SFCC finish the season with seven wins.

"Malachi was the center of our defense. He was the organizer and leader of the back line," said Roadrunners Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran.

Ntene finished second on the team in goals scored with five, two of which were game-winning goals. Ntene was second on the team in points with 12, and recorded two assists, which was good enough for third on the team.

"Tebello is extremely fast and quick with the ball," said Beltran. "He does a good job of thinking on the field and does everything that the coaching staff asks him to do. I think he is definitely deserving of this recognition. He has been a great player for us for the last three years."

Abdi led the team with five assists and finished third on the team in goals (three) and points (11).

"Zak was a really powerful player, who created a lot of good things for us offensively, as well as helping out our defense as a midfielder," said Beltran. "He scored some big-time goals for us this year."
