Roadrunners Soccer Recaps Sept. 30-Oct. 5

Sept. 30 Central Methodist University at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners beat the Central Methodist University Eagles 2-0  on Monday, Sept. 30 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex.

The Roadrunners got their offense going early when freshman midfielder Alex Mee of England scored off a set piece courtesy of a pass from sophomore midfielder Mani Hondroudakis of Australia. The Roadrunners would strike again four minutes later when sophomore defender Jackson Ralph of New Zealand scored an unassisted goal off of another set piece to give SFCC the winning margin.

"One of the set pieces we got kind of fortunate and we got another shot in," said Roadrunners Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "Alex was in the right spot and found the back of the net. The second one is something that we worked on and I'm glad it showed up in a game."

As a team, SFCC took 17 shots, nine of which were on target. Freshman forward Tebello Ntene of Lesotho and sophomore forward Aaron Latimer of Amarillo, Texas tied for the team lead in shots with three each.

"We relaxed too soon up 2-0 with a lot of time left in the game. I would like to see little bit more of a killer instinct from our team," said Beltran.

Freshman goalkeeper Nicolas Olmos of Bolivia got the start in net for SFCC. He recorded five saves in the match. Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Haag of Stover finished the game with two saves.

"Our defense did great," said Beltran. "I was disappointed that Nicolas got injured and we had to go to another goalkeeper. However, I was happy that Alex got in and was able to actually get some playing time. Alex has come a long way from being a redshirt his first year, to working so hard that he deserved a chance to play."

Oct. 5 Jefferson College at Hillsboro, Missouri

SFCC (7-5-1, 2-2 in Region 16, 1-1, in the MCCAC)  lost to Jefferson College 3-0 in a Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game in Hillsboro.

Jefferson scored a goal in the first half. The Vikings would add two more in the second half to provide the winning margin.

"We were missing a couple of important players and had to be more aggressive in the second half being down a goal," said Beltran. "We had some opportunities on goal in the second half, both teams defended well. The 3-0 score is kind of misleading, as there were not a lot of shots on goal for either team."

As a team, the Roadrunners recorded four shots, three of which were on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Sebastian Aguero of Sedalia recorded two saves. Freshman goalkeeper Blaise Mucho of Houston, Texas finished the game in goal for SFCC.
