Roadrunners Soccer Recaps Sept. 24-28

Sept. 24 Metropolitan Community College at Sedalia

State Fair Community College (SFCC) extended its winning streak to four games with a 1-0 victory over the Metropolitan Community College Wolves on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex.

SFCC had 18 shots, 11 on goal. The Roadrunners only converted on one of the opportunities, but it was enough, as sophomore midfielder Angelo Salomone of Australia found the back of the net courtesy of a cross from freshman forward Tebello Ntene of Lesotho.

"We just had to keep going," said Roadrunners Head Soccer Coach Jaime Beltran. "If the ball is not bouncing right, we just have to keep pushing until it does. I feel like we dominated the first half and most of the second half. We had several opportunities. We hit a crossbar; their goalkeeper had an amazing save. We hit both posts with one shot. I will take the win."

Salomone and freshman forward Jordan Bishop of Australia led the team with three shots each. Sophomore goalkeeper Sebastian Aguero of Sedalia picked up the shutout in the net for SFCC. He had two saves.

Sept. 28 Crowder College at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) lost to the Crowder College Roughriders from Neosho 2-0 on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex in an important Region 16 game.

Crowder opened the scoring with a goal with 21 minutes and 57 seconds remaining in the opening half. The Roughriders headed in a corner kick to take the 1-0 advantage.

"We didn't defend that corner kick well," said Beltran. "Crowder took advantage of it. I felt like we had control of the game at that point and we gave up one silly corner kick that we didn't defend and that was the winning goal."

Crowder added another goal with six minutes and 40 seconds remaining in the game to secure the victory.

As a team, SFCC had 10 shots, five of which were on goal. Ntene and freshman midfielder Francisco Rojas of Sedalia tied for the team lead in shots with two each.

Aguero got the start in net for SFCC. He recorded two saves to keep SFCC within reach.

"Aguero had a great game," said Beltran. "He kept us in the game with some great saves."

The Roadrunners record currently stands at 6-4-1 and 2-1 in Region 16.
