Men's soccer game recap Aug. 25

The Roadrunners opened the season Aug. 25 with a trip to Great Bend, Kansas, to take on the Barton Community College Cougars, who are currently receiving votes in the 2018 NJCAA Division I soccer rankings. SFCC (0-1-0) fell 3-0.

Barton opened with a goal in the first half, and SFCC held BCC from scoring until the second half.

"We were down some key players," said Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "We played well the first 20 minutes. Barton is good at spreading the field and keeping possession. It was kind of a domino effect because we had players who were out of position for various reasons. We have to react better to adversity. This was the first adversity we have faced because things went well in the preseason. Barton is a good team that is well coached."

Vasbert Ledger led SFCC in shots with four. Aaron Latimer registered two shots, one of which was on goal. SFCC took 10 shots during the match with one on goal. Juan Jurkevicius recorded nine saves in goal, and Reece Gabbert recorded one save.

SFCC's next game is 7:30 p.m. Aug. 29 against Neosho County Community College at Clover Dell Park in Sedalia.
