Roadrunners soccer game recap, August 25

August 25, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) at Miami, Oklahoma

The Roadrunners opened their 2017 season with a 1-0 overtime win against the NEO Norse.

"Control of the game went back-and-forth; there were times when we were clearly in charge and then they would come back at us," said Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "Northeastern Oklahoma had a couple of moments in the second half when they were controlling the pace of the game. Late in the game, we were getting more control and had a couple chances to put a goal away in regulation time.

"The overtime period was back-and-forth just like the game," said Beltran. "NEO had a really good chance to score. Fortunately, our defense was in good position. Landon Dove did a nice job covering the goal, and they were unable to capitalize. Almost immediately after that, we had our opportunity."

Roadrunners sophomore forward Mako Makoanyane gave SFCC the season opening win in the overtime. He took a pass from freshman midfielder Trey Goodson and found the back of the net.

Dove picked up the win in goal for SFCC. He recorded four saves in his first action as a Roadrunner. Freshman midfielder Vasbert Ledger had three shots in the game. Sophomore midfielder Brendan Hofheins and Makoanyane recorded two shots each.

SFCC will open the home portion of their schedule at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, against Barton Community College at the Sports Complex.
