The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners traveled to Robinson, Illinois to compete in the Lincoln Trail College Fall Invitational on Saturday, October 10. SFCC shot a 692 as a team, at the 36-hole event at the Quail Creek Country Club and Resort. The team score consisted of individual cumulative scores from the top four players on each squad.
"The golfers faced firm conditions," said SFCC Head Golf Coach Wayne Ogle. "They also dealt with variable winds, small greens along with many forced layup shots. Playing 36 holes in one day is challenging both mentally and physically. We tried to focus on playing one shot at a time. We wanted to take advantage of all the layup holes by being specific with the approach yardage that we tried to leave ourselves. Our goal was to hit the same wedge many times throughout the round. Many of the greens were so small that if we hit the middle of that, we had great looks at birdie."
Freshman Bo Kroenke (Lincoln) finished 17th at the event with scores of 85 and 80 for a total of 165. Freshman Andrew Bailey (Warrensburg) finished 28th with scores of 84 and 89 for a total of 173. Freshman Kaden Killingsworth (Mt. Vernon) finished 32nd shooting 90 and 91 for a total score of 181. Freshman Jacoby Mast (Springfield) finished 33rd with scores of 97 and 85 for a total of 182. Freshman William Rader (Joplin) finished 34th with scores of 88 and 95 for a total of 183.
"We have a long way to go when it comes to competing as a team," said Ogle. "But we have some individual performances that will be fun to watch as the year moves forward."
