SEDALIA — The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners struggled offensively in a low-scoring 53-38 loss to Three Rivers Community College in a Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference contest Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
Three Rivers opened with a 19-4 run, marking the largest lead by either team. SFCC trimmed the margin to 24-15 at halftime.
The Roadrunners trailed 29-22 with 11:38 remaining but couldn't close the gap as Three Rivers extended the lead late in the game.
SFCC shot 24% from the field and 66% from the free-throw line.
"That was probably the worst defensive rebounding effort that we've seen all year," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. "Three Rivers outrebounded us 55 to 29. It doesn't help when you go two of 20 from the three-point line. Three Rivers didn't shoot the ball well either. It was an ugly game. The bottom line was that they kicked our tails on the glass. I feel like Three Rivers got better, and we took a step back."
Sophomore forward Chin Hanson (Chicago) and sophomore forward Sam Bradford (Houston) tied for the team lead in scoring with nine points each. Freshman forward Malick Ndiaye (Arlington, Texas) and Hanson tied for the team lead in rebounds with six each. Sophomore guard Alex Gunnels (Kansas City, Missouri) led the team in assists and steals with four each. Sophomore guard/forward Jon Brandtner (Cape Girardeau, Missouri) recorded a team-high three blocks.
