The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners fell to the 10th-ranked Moberly Area Community College Greyhounds 75-68 on Jan. 22 in Sedalia. The game featured five lead changes and three ties.

 

Sophomore forward Sam Bradford of Houston scored SFCC's initial nine points. The Roadrunners led 36-32 at halftime. Moberly rallied in the second half, securing the win with key plays in the final minutes.

 

Bradford led with 31 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard/forward Jon Brandtner of Cape Girardeau contributed 14 points off the bench. Freshman forward Daniel Garza of Chicago added 10 points. Sophomore guard Alex Gunnels of Kansas City dished out nine assists. Freshman forward Malick Ndiaye of Arlington, Texas, led with two steals and two blocks.

 

"I thought our team played hard," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. "Moberly missed a couple of shots late and were able to get the rebounds and lay them back in. Other than that, they out rebounded us by three for the game. Moberly is one of the better rebounding teams in the country. The rebounds were probably the difference in the game down the stretch. We haven't had our whole team together yet this season. Hopefully, everyone will be back on the floor Saturday. Moberly is a good team, that is why they are where they are, but so are we. We look forward to having everybody back, especially for the last eight conference games."

 

 

SFCC (15-6, 2-3 Region 16) overcame a 13-point first-half deficit to edge Missouri State University-West Plains 64-63 on Jan. 25.

 

Trailing 19-6 early, SFCC narrowed the gap to 36-28 by halftime. A stronger second half propelled the Roadrunners to their first Region 16 road win.

 

Bradford again led with 27 points and seven rebounds, tying sophomore guard Mosa Osagie of McKinney, Texas. Gunnels added 10 points, five assists, and three steals. Brandtner contributed 10 points off the bench.
