Nov. 20 St. Louis Community College at St. Louis
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners basketball team earned a hard-fought 59-52 victory over St. Louis Community College on Wednesday night, Nov. 20 in St. Louis. The game was part of the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference schedule for both teams.
SFCC led the back-and-forth contest 28-22 at halftime. SFCC outscored St. Louis 31-30 in the second half and knocked down several clutch free throws in the final minute to secure the road victory.
Sophomore guard Alex Gunnels led SFCC with 13 points and three assists. Sophomore guard/forward Jon Brandtner added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman guard Tyson Mobley registered a team-high two steals.
As a team, SFCC shot 36 percent from the field and went 21 of 31 (67.7 percent) from the free-throw line.
The win marked a milestone for Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown, who earned his 100th victory as the head coach of the Roadrunners. Brown currently ranks third in all-time victories for the Roadrunners.
Nov. 23 Neosho Community College at Chanute, Kansas
SFCC (9-1) picked up its second road victory of the week with a 79-52 victory over Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kansas on Saturday, Nov.23.
SFCC led the contest from beginning to end. The Roadrunners jumped out to a 24-14 lead in the opening half. SFCC pushed the advantage to 41-26 at halftime and held a 31- point advantage in the second half which was the largest by either team in the contest.
The Roadrunners shot a scorching hot 50 percent from the field and shot 12 of 18 (42.9 percent) from the three-point line. As a team, the Roadrunners forced 15 turnovers in the game and allowed only 26 points in each half.
Brandtner knocked down eight of his nine field-goal attempts, including six of seven from beyond the three-point line. Brandtner scored 24 points to lead the SFCC offensive attack. Sophomore guard Mosa Osagie scored 10 points. Freshman forward Donovan Matthews and sophomore forward Chin Hanson tied for the team lead with seven rebounds each. Freshman guard Donta Davis led the team with four assists. Davis, Gunnels, Mobley and Brandtner all tied for the team lead in steals with two.
