New look Roadrunners prepare for season

The Roadrunners basketball team is getting ready for an exciting season. Under the guidance of Head Coach Matt Brown, the team is gearing up for the 2023-2024 campaign with a fresh lineup. With the addition of key players like James Munlyn, the Roadrunners will embrace versatile playing styles, ranging from a larger lineup to dynamic pressing tactics.

Leadership will be crucial, and the team looks up to captains Elijah Edwards, a transfer from Shawnee, Isaiah Jackson, from Link Year Prep in Branson, and Thomas Diew, who spent last year in Springfield playing for Rob Yanders, along with experienced players Munlyn and Cliff Barrow. With his diverse playing background, Assistant Coach Deshon Portley brings valuable expertise to the team.

SFCC will play at home in their traditional McDonald's Classic on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3 and 4, followed by the Missouri-Iowa Challenge. Coach Brown emphasizes the importance of staying injury-free and adapting to different playing styles. "We will be able to play two different styles, one with a bigger lineup and one with a smaller lineup that can pressure and play fast," said Coach Brown.

The season will start on Nov. 1 against the Missouri Valley College junior varsity team at home. The team will have two games in December to close the semester and return to game action on Jan. 6, hosting Link Year Prep. The Roadrunners will jump into Region 16 action on Jan. 10, hosting Moberly Area Community College. They will close the Region 16 portion of their schedule on Saturday, Mar. 2, against Missouri State University-West Plains.
