February 8 Metropolitan Community College at Kansas City
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners suffered a tough loss at Metropolitan Community College to the Wolves by a score of 83-80.
SFCC took a 25-18 advantage, the largest lead of the game, in the first half. Metropolitan Community College fought back to trim the SFCC advantage to one point at halftime. The teams battled back-and-forth with 11 lead changes and six ties. SFCC had a lead late in the contest but, MCC responded once again to take a three-point lead. In the final seconds an opportunity for a last-second shot from the Roadrunners bounced off the backboard to secure the victory for the Wolves.
Freshman guard Tazir Smith led SFCC in scoring with 17 points. Freshman guard Devon Ellis contributed 15 points and tied for the team lead in blocked shots with two, along with sophomore wing/forward Abou Wague. Sophomore guard Jules Bikoy added 12 points and tied for the team lead in assists with six with freshman guard Elijah Bernstein and sophomore wing/forward Dalton Gayman. Gayman also scored 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds in the game.
February 11 Three Rivers Community College at Poplar Bluff
SFCC (7-19, 1-8 in Region 16) lost 83-72 to Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff on Saturday night, Feb. 11. The game was part of the Region 16 schedule for both teams.
Both teams got off to a slow start in the game, but Three Rivers led 11-2 with just under 13 minutes to go in the opening half, before SFCC tied the game at 19.
Three Rivers led 37-21 at halftime. However, the Roadrunners trimmed the deficit to 58-50 with about nine minutes remaining in the second half. Three Rivers made just enough plays down the stretch to hold off the Roadrunners and emerge with a victory.
Bikoy led the team in scoring and steals with 26 and four, respectively. Gayman scored 15 points and seven rebounds. He also led the team with two blocked shots. Ellis scored 10 points.
