Roadrunners basketball wrap-up preseason schedule

The Roadrunners participated in a controlled scrimmage against Missouri Valley College in Marshall on Thursday, Oct. 27.

"We were able to play some halves of man-to-man defense and some zone," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. "We were able to work on a little bit of everything, including some special situations. I think this is better than a jamboree because you can play different combinations and work on different situations. It was a good experience for our guys.

"The coaching staffs got together before the scrimmage and decided what we wanted to work on. We played some specific defenses for them, and they also did it for us as well. We were able to see some different looks. It was really good. We had some good segments and some bad segments throughout the scrimmage."

SFCC and MVC were able to work on different situations such as a tie score with two minutes left in the game.

"We definitely have to get better at special situations," said Brown. "That's why we worked on them. We worked a little bit on our zone offense because we will see some zone. We also played zone defense, because we will play some of that throughout the year. It was a good learning opportunity for our guys. I like having scrimmages like this. We were able to play all 11 guys who dressed.

"We have had a good preseason," said Brown. "We were a little bit inconsistent at times and need to be able to sustain a good effort for 40 minutes. We're just taking it one day at a time. We have so many new guys with only two players returning. We're just trying to improve every day."
