Roadrunners continue preseason preparation

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners basketball team participated in three scrimmages at the Midwest Jamboree on Sunday, Oct. 16 in Carbondale, Illinois.

"All 11 guys who dressed, were able to play significant minutes," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. "Our goal was to continue to evaluate talent. This weekend we learned how hard we have to play to compete in Region 16."

SFCC fell to Southwestern Illinois College in their first scrimmage at the event.

"Tazir Smith scored the ball some offensively, against Southwestern Illinois," said Brown.

In the second scrimmage, SFCC lost to Lincoln Trail College (LTC).

"We actually played a lot better in the second half of the LTC game and had a chance to win," said Brown. We ended up losing by five points."

In the third scrimmage at the event, SFCC lost to Lake Land College.

"Everyone played and that is what mattered most," said Brown. "Abou Wague made some strong moves around the basket and Jules Bikoy made some good shots for us in the third scrimmage.

"I thought it was good set of scrimmages for us," said Brown. "We knew that the competition was going to be good. Obviously, you want to win but, the main objective was to learn and get better. We are going to watch film and learn from some things we're good at some things we have to get better at."
