The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners went 2-1 in their first opportunity to scrimmage against other opponents at the All-American Jamboree on Sunday, Oct. 2 in Wichita, Kansas.
The Roadrunners defeated Weatherford College in their first scrimmage in Wichita.
"Weatherford is a pretty solid team that plays in a good conference," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. "It was a good scrimmage for us. We were able to play 10 guys and the purpose of all the scrimmages is to play as many different combinations of players as you can. We accomplished that and got a good team win. I thought Dalton Gayman played well for us."
SFCC fell to Northwest Kansas Technical College in their second scrimmage of the day.
"We played all 12 guys in this game," said Brown. "I thought Tazir Smith played well for us against Northwest Kansas. We started a different lineup in the game. You want to try to play as many guys as possible in the scrimmages to be able to see different combinations. Everyone got some valuable minutes in the game."
SFCC defeated Dodge City Community College in their third and final scrimmage of the day.
"Dodge City is another quality opponent out of the Jayhawk Conference," said Brown. "That was a good win for us. This game was a pretty good team effort. Elijah Bernstein made some big free throws down the stretch for us. Smith also made some big free throws for us. I thought Jules Bikoy made some timely three-point shots to help us win."
Coach Brown was pleased with what he saw in his teams opening set of scrimmages.
"Everyone got to play," said Brown. "We played really good competition. Obviously, you want to win but, the most important thing is that you want to get all of your rotations in. It was a great experience. Everyone got to play, and we didn't have any injuries. I really liked our attitude and our effort."
