Roadrunners snap three-game losing streak

Jan. 5 Three Rivers Community College at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners opened the second semester with a Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference 70-65 victory over Three Rivers Community College on Jan. 5 inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.

Three Rivers took a three-point advantage into the locker room at halftime. SFCC fought back to take a 45-41 lead with just over 13 minutes remaining in the contest. Three Rivers tied the game at 49 with nine minutes and 55 seconds to go. SFCC fought back once again to take a 66-61 lead with less than a minute remaining in the game.

"We had not played in about three weeks," said Roadrunners Head Basketball Coach Matt Brown. "I thought our kids competed hard. Three Rivers is a good team. They're going to win a lot of games in our league. I thought Cam Tweedy played really well tonight. I also thought Yame Butler and Will Wilson  played well for us tonight. I am excited about where we're at as a team."

Tweedy led three Roadrunners in double figures with 22 points and registered a team-high three blocks. Butler pitched in with 18 points. Wilson added 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds and tied for the team high with two steals along with Tweedy. Caleb Mims led in assists with six.

 

Jan. 8 Missouri State University-West Plains at West Plains, Missouri

SFCC (12-6, 1-2 in Region 16) fell in a Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game 89-75 to the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzlies in West Plains, Missouri on Saturday night, Jan. 8.

West Plains led 20-18 with about 12 minutes remaining in the opening half. The Grizzlies led 45-39 at halftime. West Plains got their offense going in the second half to extend the advantage to 64-46 with about 13 minutes remaining in the game.

"It was good to have Jamar Madge Jr. back," said Brown. "He has been out for a year. We are excited to have him. We are trying to blend some guys together, but obviously we came up short in the game. It wasn't our best game of the year. We struggled defensively."

Chad Kratzer Jr. led three Roadrunners in double figures with 23 points. Wilson pitched in with 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Tweedy added 11 points.  Caleb Mims recorded a team-high six assists and led the team in steals with two.
