Roadrunners close out the first half of the season

Dec. 6 Wabash Valley College at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners lost a hard-fought 65-60 game to Wabash Valley College inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on Monday night, Dec. 6.

The game featured three lead changes and two ties. SFCC had only seven players dressed for the game. The Roadrunners took a 34-25 lead into halftime. Wabash fought back to tie the game at 51 with about 10 minutes remaining in the game. Wabash took a two-point advantage with less than nine minutes remaining in the game.

SFCC missed a pair of three-point shots late that would have tied the contest and Wabash hung on to pick up the victory.

Freshman guard Caleb Mims led SFCC in scoring with 14 points and recorded team-highs with six assists and three steals. Freshman guard/forward Cam Tweedy and freshman guard Chad Kratzer Jr. scored 12 points each. Freshman guard Yame Butler added 11 points. Freshman forward Clance Crosby lead the team in rebounds with 10.

"We had a chance to win the game tonight with seven guys playing," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. "That's about all you can ask. I'm proud of the seven guys that we played tonight. That was a pretty good effort. We had guys playing out of position and did the best we could."

 

Dec. 8 Labette Community College at Sedalia

SFCC (11-5) wrapped up the first semester with a 90-82 loss to Labette Community College inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on Wednesday night, Dec. 8. The contest featured eight lead changes and 11 ties.

The game was tied at 35 at halftime. SFCC opened the second half on an 8-1 run. Labette took a two-point advantage with under 15 minutes remaining in the contest. Labette made just enough plays down the stretch to emerge with the victory.

"Our team has been battling sickness," said Brown. "We did our best, but unfortunately we just came up short. "We need a break to hopefully get guys healthy. You have to give credit to Labette though, they came in here and won. They were the tougher team."

Tweedy registered a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman guard/forward Will Wilson scored 18 points and three steals, a team-high. Butler pitched in with 13 points and a team-high seven assists. Freshman forward Malik Madison contributed 12 points and tied in blocked shots with Crosby with two each.
