SFCC wins trio of games

Nov. 16 Neosho County Community College at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners picked up a 71-69 victory over Neosho County Community College inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on Tuesday night, Nov. 16. The game was a back-and-forth battle, which featured nine lead changes and five ties.

SFCC took the ball the length of the floor with 15.9 seconds remaining in the contest with the score tied at 69. SFCC missed the initial shot and the first put back opportunity. Freshman guard Yame Butler grabbed the second offensive rebound and scored as time expired to secure the victory for the Roadrunners.

"We were trying to play for the final shot and get to the basket," said Roadrunners Basketball Coach Matt Brown. "We didn't shoot the ball well, so they were playing off us. Neosho had a good game plan. Luckily, Yame was able to get to the offensive glass. Neosho is a fast team, and they will be good in their conference. They played us the right way and made us shoot jump shots. We are going to see a lot of that. Chad Kratzer shot the ball well for us. The blocks by Clance Crosby early helped us defensively. He has a chance to be a pretty good player. It was a great team win."

Kratzer led the team in scoring with 20 points, including four three-pointers and a team-high four steals. Butler scored 14 points. Freshman guard/forward Cam Tweedy added 12 points. Crosby pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds and led the team in blocked shots with four. Freshman guard/forward Will Wilson recorded a team-high four assists.

Nov. 19 Westminster College Junior Varsity at Sedalia

SFCC opened their portion of the State Fair Community College Classic with a 95-42 victory over the Westminster College Junior Varsity inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on Friday night, Nov. 19.

SFCC jumped out to a 11-0 lead to open the game and never looked back

Freshman forward Malik Madison led five players in double-figure scoring with 21 points, making 10 of 12 shots from the field. Wilson contributed 14 points. Freshman forward Uros Gatic added 11 points. Crosby registered a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Kratzer also scored 10 points. Freshman guard Malek Mims dished out a team-high five assists and led the team in steals with three.

"The whole purpose of the game was to get our guys a lot of experience," said Brown. "Malek Mims hasn't played all year and Clance has only played sparingly. Malik Madison got to play. We were trying to get our guys some valuable minutes and get some other guys some rest. I am proud of our guys. They played as a team, and it was a good win for us."

Nov. 20 Lewis and Clark Community College at Sedalia

SFCC (7-2) wrapped up the State Fair Community College Classic with a 95-73 victory over Lewis and Clark Community College on Saturday night, Nov. 20 inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. The victory was the third in a row for SFCC.

SFCC used another balanced scoring effort in the game. Tweedy and Kratzer tied for the team lead with 17 points. Tweedy had team-highs with eight rebounds, six assists (tied), and two blocked shots. Madison contributed 12 points. Butler and freshman guard Elliott Sieger added 10 points each. Malek Mims recorded six assists (tied).

"We are still playing different combinations and trying to find a rhythm to our team," said Brown. "We had 26 assists as a team on the game and our shooting numbers were pretty good. I'm really proud of our efforts tonight and it was a really good win for us."
