Roadrunners split at Iowa-Missouri Challenge

Nov. 9 Link Year Prep at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Link Year Prep from Branson 93-80 on Tuesday, Nov. 9 in Sedalia. The game featured 10 lead changes and eight ties.

"We had five guys in double-figure scoring," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. "We were able to move the ball around a little bit. Although I thought we had a few too many turnovers, it was a good win overall. We will take any win that we can get."

Freshman guard/forward Will Wilson led SFCC in scoring with 21 points and two steals. Freshman guard/forward Cam Tweedy registered a double-double with 18 points and a team-high 15 rebounds. Freshman forward Kingsley Ijeoma added 16 points and a team-high two blocked shots. Freshman guard Chad Kratzer Jr. pitched in scoring 15 points. Freshman guard Caleb Mims scored 12 points and tied for the team lead in assists with five. Freshman guard Yame Butler recorded five assists.

Nov. 12 Marshalltown Community College at West Burlington, Iowa

SFCC opened their portion of the Iowa-Missouri Challenge with a thrilling 68-67 overtime victory over Marshalltown Community College on Friday afternoon, Nov. 12 in West Burlington, Iowa. Marshalltown is currently receiving votes in the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Poll.

"It was a back-and-forth game most of the way," said Brown. "We had a chance to win the game in regulation but, missed a couple free throws. Marshalltown made some big shots to get the game into overtime but, we were able to pull it out. Marshalltown is in a good conference. It was a good win for us."

Nov. 13 Southeastern Community College at West Burlington, Iowa

SFCC (4-2) closed out the Iowa-Missouri Challenge with a 66-55 loss to Southeastern Community College on Saturday night, Nov. 13 at West Burlington, Iowa.

Southeastern took a 10-point lead at halftime. The Blackhawks outscored the Roadrunners 32-31 in the second half to secure the victory.

"It was another good, low-scoring back-and-forth game," said Brown. "It could've gone either way down the stretch. They made some plays and we didn't. I believe Southeastern will be nationally ranked soon."

Ijeoma registered a double-double with team-highs with 15 points, 13 rebound, two steals (tied) and two blocks (tied). Tweedy also had two blocks, and Butler and sophomore guard/forward Laveric Mangala each had two steals, as well. Butler also recorded a team-high five assists.
