Roadrunners Basketball Recaps Nov. 12-16

Nov. 12 Southeastern Community College at West Burlington, Iowa

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners lost a 72-63 game to the number 14 ranked Southeastern Community College Blackhawks on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

"Like all of our games this year, we were able to get off to a good lead," said Roadrunners Basketball Head Coach Matt Brown. "Southeastern is a good team. It was a close game all the way through. I think Southeastern was able to get some loose balls and create some extra possessions. I believe that's why they won the game."

Sophomore guard Kailleb Walton-Blanden of Rapid City, South Dakota led three Roadrunners in double figures with 16 points and dished out a team-high five assists. Sophomore forward Malcolm Townsel of Chicago, Illinois added 14 points and sophomore guard Damaria Franklin of Chicago, Illinois added 10 points. Redshirt freshman guard Nate McClure of Houston, Texas pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman forward Lual Akot of Ottawa, Canada registered a team-high three steals.

SFCC is also receiving votes in the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Rankings.

Nov. 15 Bryant & Stratton College Wisconsin at Sedalia

SFCC opened their portion of the SFCC Classic with a 95-87 victory over Bryant & Stratton College Wisconsin on Friday, Nov. 15 inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.

SFCC took a 41-40 lead into halftime. They stretched the advantage to 12 points in second half; however the Bobcats refused to go away quietly. SFCC made the plays down the stretch to secure the victory.

"I was disappointed with our effort," said Brown. "I'm happy we won the game. I thought we had some guys give us good minutes. I thought Kailleb played well, but we need some other guys to step up."

Walton-Blanden led three Roadrunners in double figures with 35 points. He knocked down 22 of his 28 free-throw attempts and dished out a team-high five assists. Franklin contributed 14 points. He and Walton-Blanden tied for the team lead in blocked shots with two. Akot chipped in with 10 points. Redshirt freshman forward Dimitri Georgiadis of Richmond, Virginia pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Nov. 16 Butler Community College-Kansas at Sedalia

SFCC (5-3) closed out their portion of the SFCC Classic with a 68-54 victory over the Butler Community College-Kansas Grizzlies inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.

SFCC trailed 34-30 at halftime. The Roadrunners got their offense going in the second half to help secure the victory.

"This was a good win for us," said Brown. "I thought we kind of imposed our will on them. We were able to get to the basket a little more and got some free throws. That was a heck of a win for us, they are a good team. Hopefully, this will give us a little momentum."

Franklin led his team in scoring with 25 points and dished out a team-high six assists. He also led the team in steals with two. Townsel contributed 10 points. Georgiadis pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds and led the team with four blocked shots.
