Roadrunners Finish Preseason Schedule

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners finished the preseason portion of their schedule on Sunday, Oct. 20 with three scrimmage games at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. SFCC went 1-2 at the event. The format of scrimmages consisted of two 20 minute halves.

SFCC lost 59-57 to Northeastern Oklahoma A & M College in their first scrimmage. The game featured seven lead changes and nine ties. SFCC had a seven-point lead in the first half, which was the largest lead held by either team in the scrimmage.

"Damaria Franklin (Chicago, Illinois) led us in scoring with 15 points," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. "We had pretty balanced scoring. Malcolm Townsel  (Chicago, Illinois) had 12 points. It was a good game. Northeastern Oklahoma is a good team."

SFCC lost to Allen Community College in the second game 70-63. The game featured three lead changes and three ties. SFCC had a 13 point lead in the first half, which was the biggest lead held by either team in the game.

"We were up double figures in that game as well," said Brown. "Sarion McGee (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) had 17 points and 11 rebounds in the game. We were able to once again play all 11 guys."

In their final scrimmage of the preseason, SFCC defeated Cloud County Community College 67-56. SFCC jumped out to an early 33-10 lead in the first half and never looked back.

"It was probably the best basketball game we played the entire preseason," said Brown. "It was a pretty balanced effort.  John Egbuta (Bronx, New York) had 13 points in that game. Overall, I really pleased with our preseason. We went 8-3. We have some things we have to work on, but I think we have a lot to work with. It is a fun group to coach and they give you good effort."

SFCC will open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 1 in the McDonald's Classic with a game against John Wood Community College. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the State Fair Community College campus.
