Cardinals defeat Roadrunners

The Roadrunners (11-18, 0-8 in Region 16, 2-8 in the MCCAC) lost 100-59 to the Mineral Area College Cardinals in Park Hills on Feb. 25. The Cardinals are ranked 11th in the nation. 

Mineral Area jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the first half and led 57-20 at halftime.   

Freshman forward Tyrone Gibbs scored a team-high 12 points. Freshman guard Lorenzo Lawrence II chipped in with 10. Freshman forward Amir Smith and freshman center Isaac Bassey tied for the lead in rebounds pulling down five each. Sophomore guard Corey Mendez dished out a team-high four assists. Smith led in blocked shots with four. Mendez and freshman forward Jamar Kemp tied for the team lead in steals with two each. 

SFCC will take on the top-seeded and 10th ranked Moberly Area Community College in a Region 16 championship semifinal round game. Tipoff is 6 p.m. March 3 in the Jason Gym on the Lincoln University campus in Jefferson City.
