Greyhounds defeat Roadrunners

The Roadrunners lost 81-61 to the 14th-ranked Moberly Area Community College Greyhounds on Feb. 18 at the Davis Center. The game was part of the annual Homecoming and Sophomore Night festivities. The Roadrunners are 11-16, 0-7 in Region 16 and 2-7 in the MCCAC.

Seven minutes into the first half Moberly jumped out to an early 11-5 advantage. The Greyhounds led 37-23 at halftime. SFCC trimmed the deficit to 11 points with about six minutes 30 seconds remaining in the game, but that was as close as they would get.

"We played hard and competed at times," said Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "Moberly is a good team. When we tried to make a run, they had an answer for it."

Sophomore forward Amir Smith scored 16 points, pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and led in blocked shots with three. Sophomore guard Vonny Irvin contributed 12 points and dished out a team-high eight assists. Freshman guards Russell Baker and Lorenzo Lawrence II added 10 points each. Freshman forward Jamar Kemp led the team in steals with four.

SFCC will close out the home portion of their regular season at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21 when they take on the Iowa Western Community College Reivers.
