Raiders defeat Roadrunners

The Roadrunners traveled to Poplar Bluff Feb. 4 to take on the Three Rivers Community College Raiders. SFCC (11-13, 0-5 in Region 16, 2-5 in the MCCAC) with only eight players found themselves down 17 points in the second half. The Roadrunners made a rally to cut the deficit to three points but could not get closer. Three Rivers went on a 10-0 run to win 83-72.

"Early in the game Jamar Kemp played well defensively," said Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "He stole passes and got tips and deflections. It was good to see Colton (Kolowski) come out and make shots, and Onteral Woodson's defensive efforts were better tonight."

Woodson led four Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 18 points and also tied for the lead in assists with Corey Mendez registering five each. Woodson tied with Jamar Kemp for the lead in steals with three. Tyrone Gibbs contributed 13 points and tied Kemp for the lead in rebounds with six each. Mendez added 12 points, and Kolowski added 11. Amir Smith and Kemp tied for the lead in blocked shots with two.

"We just ran out of gas at the end of the game," said Thomas. "Tyrone played his best game as a Roadrunner. He was able to take advantage of some mismatches and attack the rim off the dribble. We had good play out of different guys tonight."

SFCC will return to action at home at 7 p.m. Feb. 8 in a key Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game against Missouri State University-West Plains.
