Roadrunners fall at Moberly

The Roadrunners traveled to Moberly on Jan. 18 to take on the fourth-ranked team in the nation, the Moberly Area Community College Greyhounds. Moberly jumped out to a 10-2 lead with 17 minutes remaining in the first half.

SFCC (11-9, 0-2 in Region 16, 1-2 in the MCCAC) trailed 45-18 at halftime; final score was 89-40.

"We didn't handle Moberly's pressure defense well," said Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "We did a poor job of executing our offenses and defenses. We didn't have guys in the right positions. For whatever reason, our guys weren't mentally into the game."

Freshman center Isaac Bassey led in scoring with 11 points and recorded a team-high two blocked shots. Freshman guard Russell Baker and sophomore guard Vonny Irvin tied for the team lead in rebounds with eight each. Irvin and sophomore guard Corey Mendez tied for the lead in assists with four.

SFCC travels to West Plains on Jan. 24 for another Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game against the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzlies. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
