Roadrunners defeat Archers

On Dec. 7 the Roadrunners (10-4, 1-0 in the MCCAC) traveled to St. Louis Community College to take on the Archer in the first Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game for this season. 

Both teams struggled offensively in the opening half. SFCC jumped out to an early 6-2 lead and led 24-17 at halftime. The Roadrunners shot 29.6 percent from the field in the first half and 42.3 percent in the second half. Final score was SFCC 65, Archers 56. 

Sophomore forward Amir Smith led in scoring with 17 points; sophomore guard Willie Jimerson Jr. contributed 14, making eight of 12 free-throw attempts. Freshman forward Jamar Kemp pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Vonny Irvin tied with Kemp for the lead in assists at four each.  Kemp and Jimerson tied for the lead in blocks with two. Freshman guard Russell Baker registered a team-high three steals. 

SFCC will return to action at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, when they travel to Ottumwa, Iowa, to participate in the Indian Hills Classic. The Roadrunners will take on the host and nationally ranked Indian Hills Community College Warriors. At 4:30 p.m. Saturday, SFCC will play Ellsworth Community College.
