SFCC Spirit Squad earns UCA camp awards

The State Fair Community College Spirit Squad wrapped up a successful Universal Cheer Association (UCA) camp July 27-29 at University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. The coaching staff was pleased with the squad's performance throughout the camp.

"They worked hard at the camp," said Head Coach Dana Page. "They improved their skills, and by mid-Saturday, they looked like a solid team. They also put in a lot of work throughout the summer on stunting and motions, so the team was well prepared."

The Spirit Squad came home with three superior blue ribbons from various competitions. They also earned first place in sideline cheer and second in fight song and game day routine. Several individuals impressed Coach Page and Assistant Coach Taylor Johnson with their performances.

"McKenna Rackers was impressive in stunts and was eager to try anything," said Page. "Destiny Haslag stepped into a stunt role and did tumbling. Abby Goolsby excelled in all our routines, and LA Jayda Wheeler's stunt performance was good."

"This was almost everyone's first UCA collegiate camp," said Johnson. "They had a good time, but it was definitely an eye-opener for the girls who had never attended a cheer camp. I think everyone did well, especially on Saturday."

The Spirit Squad will continue to prepare for the upcoming basketball season.

"We want to keep the momentum going and continue to learn," said Page. "We want to learn something new at every practice as well as review what we learned at camp. We want to build solid stunt groups and put together good performances that will be very entertaining this year."
