Roadrunners Baseball Ends Season at Region 16 Championships

May 8 – Crowder College at Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. – State Fair Community College opened the Region 16 Championships with a 4-0 win over Crowder College on Thursday, May 8.

SFCC scored once in the fifth inning and added three runs in the seventh to secure the victory.

Sophomore outfielder Caleb Briggs of Lee's Summit had two hits, including a double. Freshman middle infielder Peyton Cooper of West Plains added two hits, a double and two RBIs. Freshman infielder Connor Rice of Sedalia had two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Freshman third baseman and first baseman Andrew Hill of Columbia doubled, while sophomore middle infielder Sam Paule of Washington added a double and scored a run. Freshman outfielder and pitcher Collin Ross of Branson and redshirt freshman catcher and pitcher Albert Salguera of Valencia, Venezuela, each scored a run.

Sophomore pitcher Nate Bartlett of Lee's Summit started and went 4 2/3 innings, allowing three hits while striking out nine. Sophomore pitcher Parker Lambeth of Springfield finished the game with 4 1/3 shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.

May 9 – Mineral Area College at Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. – SFCC fell 2-1 in 10 innings to Mineral Area College in a hard-fought Region 16 contest on Friday, May 9.

SFCC scored first in the sixth inning, but Mineral Area tied it in the seventh and pushed across the winning run in the 10th.

Ross had two hits and a run scored. Rice added two hits. Freshman outfielder Devin Wassmann of Platte City drove in SFCC's only run. The Roadrunners finished with seven hits.

Freshman pitcher Hunter Jones of Branson started and tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out seven and walking five. Lambeth pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief with one strikeout. Sophomore pitcher Chase Schnieders of Jefferson City threw 3 1/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

May 9 – St. Charles Community College at Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. – SFCC (32-17) ended its season with a narrow 3-2 loss to St. Charles Community College in another Region 16 elimination game on Friday.

Wassmann led the offense with two hits, including a triple, an RBI and a run scored. Briggs added a hit. Sophomore outfielder and first baseman Dayne Wimberly of Platte City had a hit and a run scored. Paule contributed a double and an RBI.

Freshman pitcher Jacob Tellman of Jefferson City started and pitched five innings, allowing two runs on five hits with six strikeouts and four walks. Freshman pitcher Josh Hagle of Knob Noster followed with three innings, giving up one run on three hits and striking out three. Sophomore pitcher Connor Rhorer of Pilot Grove pitched the final inning and recorded a strikeout.
