March 22 – Metropolitan Community College at Sedalia
SEDALIA, Mo. – SFCC (14-9, 9-7 Region 16) swept Metropolitan Community College in a Region 16 doubleheader Saturday, winning 4-2 and 7-1.
Before the first pitch, head coach Jud Kindle was honored for his 200th career win, achieved earlier in the season against Three Rivers Community College. SFCC Athletic Director Darren Pannier presented Kindle with a commemorative baseball to mark the milestone.
"The 200 wins is a credit to the coaches and players we've had in our program," Kindle said. "I've been blessed with great players and really good assistant coaches. I'd also like to thank Athletic Director Darren Pannier for giving me the opportunity to lead this program."
In game one, pitching controlled the pace. The SFCC offense was limited to two hits, but Hedrick delivered a three-run walk-off home run to seal the win. Ross doubled, and Wimberly added an RBI with a sacrifice fly.
Sophomore pitcher Chase Schnieders of Jefferson City started and threw six shutout innings, allowing three hits with 10 strikeouts and four walks. Lambeth (3-0) earned the win in relief, recording one strikeout and one walk in two-thirds of an inning.
In game two, Rice led the offense with three hits, including a double. Briggs and Ross each homered. Briggs drove in two runs and stole two bases. SFCC totaled six hits.
Sophomore pitcher Nate Bartlett of Lee's Summit (3-0) earned the win, pitching six innings and allowing two hits while striking out nine and walking five.
"Metropolitan took two from us at their place," Kindle said. "They cooled our bats off a little bit, but our pitching and defense is what won both of those games today. Every game in our region is big. Everyone is good this year. It was good to see our guys come out and compete and win a couple of games today."
