Roadrunners baseball season ends at Region Tournament

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) baseball team opened their portion of the Region 16 Baseball Tournament with a hard-fought 10-6 loss to the top-seeded Crowder College Roughriders at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin on Thursday, May 9.

SFCC jumped out to a 6-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning. Crowder stormed back in the final four innings to secure the comeback win.

Freshman outfielder/first baseman Dayne Wimberly led SFCC offensively with three hits and one stolen base. Freshman utility player/pitcher Dalton Miller added two hits, including a double, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore outfielder Sam Russo also had two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore outfielder Logan Miller hit a big home run for SFCC, scored twice and added three RBIs. Freshman catcher Matt Goldasich scored one run. Freshman middle infielder Sam Paule doubled and scored a run. Freshman outfielder Caleb Briggs drove in a run.

Sophomore pitcher Tait Robertson got the start for SFCC and gave up two runs on five hits, struck out eight and walked four in 4 2/3 innings. Freshman pitcher Parker Lambeth pitched two-thirds of an inning out of the bullpen and gave up five runs (one earned run) on two hits, struck out one and walked one to earn the loss.

May 10 Jefferson College Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin

SFCC (26-30) saw their 2024 campaign end with a tough 5-3 loss to second-seeded Jefferson College in an elimination game at the Region 16 Baseball Tournament at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin on Friday, May 10.

Russo led SFCC with four hits, an RBI and a run scored. Wimberly had two hits and an RBI. Paule had two hits and an RBI. Sophomore outfielder Devyn Wright had two hits, including a double and a run scored. Dalton Miller doubled and scored a run. As a team, SFCC put together 15 hits.

Freshman pitcher Chase Schnieders got the loss for SFCC. Schnieders gave up three runs, (one earned run) on four hits, struck out seven and walked four in three innings.
