Roadrunners pick up two victories

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners got their bats going early and often in a 21-14 victory over Highland Community College (Kansas) at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field in a single nine inning contest on Tuesday, February 27 in Sedalia.

The Roadrunners offense exploded for 24 hits. Freshman outfielder/first baseman Dayne Wimberly was one of seven Roadrunners in the starting lineup to record three hits. Wimberly had two doubles and three runs scored. Sophomore first baseman/third baseman Carter Jenkins had three hits, including a double, a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored. Sophomore pitcher/third baseman Jayden Little also had three hits, including two runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore outfielder Sam Russo had three hits, including a double, a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman utility player/pitcher Dalton Miller had three hits, including a double, a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. Freshman catcher Malichi Antle recorded three hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Freshman middle infielder Will Muench added three hits, including two doubles, a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored. Freshman middle infielder Sam Paule had two hits, including a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Keith Piepmeier got the start and gave up six runs on eight hits for SFCC in three innings. Sophomore pitcher Jacob House (1-1) pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief, gave up one run on one hit, struck out five and walked two to pick up the win. As a pitching staff, the Roadrunners struck out 10 batters in the game.

March 2 Ellsworth Community College at Sedalia

SFCC split a pair of games against Ellsworth Community College on Saturday, March 2 at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field in Sedalia. SFCC won game one 7-2 before losing game two 13-3 in a pair of seven inning contests.

Jenkins led the charge offensively for SFCC in game one with a pair of home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored. Wimberly had a hit, two runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases. Sophomore outfielder Logan Miller added a double and a run scored. Freshman middle infielder Sam Paule added a double. Little and Russo each recorded a run batted in.

Sophomore pitcher Tait Robertson (4-0) got the start for SFCC and gave up two runs, one earned on five hits and struck out four in six innings for the win. Sophomore pitcher Andrew Brakensiek came out of the bullpen to pitch one inning and walked a batter to finish the game.

In game two, the SFCC offense was held to six hits. Little had a pair of hits. Paule added a hit and a run scored. Wimberly recorded a hit and an RBI. Freshman catcher Beck Jones had a hit and a run scored. Sophomore outfielder Caleb Casto scored a run. Freshman first baseman/third baseman Tanner Grant added a hit and an RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Carter DeGondea got the start for SFCC and gave up six runs, five earned on five hits, struck out five for the loss in 4 1/3 innings.

March 3 Ellsworth Community College at Sedalia

SFCC (11-7) dropped a pair of seven inning contests to Ellsworth Community College, 12-1 in five innings and 7-1 on Sunday, March 3 at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field in Sedalia.

In game one, the SFCC offense was held to three hits. Paule hit a solo home run. Jenkins registered a double. Wimberly also added a hit in the contest.

Freshman pitcher Jackson Forck got the start for SFCC gave up five runs on five hits, struck out one and walked two in 1 2/3 innings for the loss.

In game two, Ellsworth held SFCC to one run on two hits. Muench tripled and scored a run. Little had a hit and a run batted in.

Freshman pitcher Chase Schnieders got the start and gave up five runs, four earned on seven hits, struck out four and walked two in 4 1/3 innings.
