Roadrunners win four games

April 19 North Arkansas College at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners had 17 hits and defeated North Arkansas College in seven innings by a score of 14-4 (because of the run rule) at home Tuesday, April 19.

Sophomore catcher/outfielder Zach Dillman led the offense with four hits, including a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore outfielder/infielder Jacob McWhirter had three hits (one home run and a double), two runs scored and four RBI (a team high). Sophomore infielder Brayden McGinnis had three hits (two doubles) and two runs. Sophomore outfielder Zeke Henson and Brandon Stahlman each had a double. Infielder Drake Miller and freshman infielder Conlan Downey added two RBI each.

Freshman pitcher Hunter Tennison got the start and pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits, struck out three, and walked three. Freshman pitcher Ben Haug came out in relief to pitch 3 1/3 innings, allowed one hit, struck out one, and walked two. Freshman pitcher Garret Lampert pitched the final inning and struck out one.

April 21 Metropolitan Community College at Kansas City

SFCC swept a crucial Region 16 doubleheader by scores of 12-10 and 15-2 in five innings, because of the run rule from Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City on Thursday, April 21

In game one, SFCC had 11 hits, including three home runs. Sophomore catcher Hamilton Anderson led the offense with a pair of home runs and double, four RBI and three runs scored. Dillman added two doubles and three RBI. McWhirter hit a home run and two RBI. Miller doubled and scored twice. Sophomore infielder Austin Warkins had two hits (one triple), three RBI and two runs scored. Downey had a pair of hits, including a triple.

Freshman pitcher Chase Carson got the start and pitched 3 2/3 innings, gave up six runs (two earned) on seven hits and struck out two. Sophomore pitchers Roy Holcomb and Antonio Escano finished the game.

In game two, SFCC kept the offense rolling with 17 hits. Downey and Henson registered three hits each. Henson just missed hitting for the cycle with a double, triple, and home run. Henson had four RBI and three runs scored in the game. Downey had two RBI , one run scored and a double. SFCC recorded six doubles in the contest as a team and seven Roadrunners recorded multiple hit games. McGinnis hit a home run and registered two RBI in the game. Dillman and McWhirter also had a pair of RBI in the game.

Freshman pitcher Jack Lawton got the start and pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowed two runs (no earned runs), three hits and struck out four. Redshirt freshman pitcher Carson Fewell pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up one hit in relief. Freshman pitcher Austin Droege pitched the final inning, gave up one hit, and struck out two.

April 23 Metropolitan Community College at Sedalia

SFCC (19-21) split a Region 16 doubleheader against Metropolitan Community College, dropping the first game 18-5 in five innings, before bouncing back to win game two 14-11 at home Saturday, April 23.

In game one, SFCC was held to seven hits. Henson had two hits, (a double and a home run), one RBI and a run scored. Stahlman added two hits and three RBI.

Escano got the start and pitched 2 1/3 innings in the loss.

In game two, SFCC had four home runs in the bottom the seventh inning to take the lead. McWhirter and Warkins led SFCC with three hits each. Warkins and Miller led the team in runs scored with three each. McWhirter and Dillman drove in three runs each. Dillman, McWhirter, McGinnis, Stahlman, Henson, and Anderson each hit one home run.

Tennison got the start, with relief from freshman pitcher Zach Buschschulte. Buschschulte pitched five innings, allowed one run on six hits and struck out four. Fewell pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowed five runs on five hits and struck out one. Holcomb pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, allowed one run on two hits, and struck out three.

SFCC honored the sophomore class between games of the doubleheader.
