Baseball team wins four games

March 13 - St. Charles Community College at Cottleville, Missouri

SFCC opened its Region 16 schedule at St. Charles Community College with a doubleheader split winning game one 7-6 before falling in game two 17-1 in Cottleville.

In game one, sophomore catcher/outfielder Zach Dillman had a pair of hits, including a double, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore outfielder Zeke Henson had a pair of hits. Freshman outfielder Caleb Casto and sophomore infielder Austin Warkins scored two runs each. Sophomore outfielder/infielder Jacob McWhirter recorded a double. Sophomore infielder Brayden McGinnis hit a home run and drove in two runs. Sophomore catcher Hamilton Anderson hit a home run in the game.

Freshman pitcher Chase Carson started the game; he pitched two innings, allowed three runs on four hits, and was given the no decision. Christian Whiting came out of the bullpen to earn the victory. Whiting pitched two innings, struck out three and walked three. Sophomore pitcher Antonio Escano pitched the final three innings, gave up three runs, two of which were earned on three hits, and struck out eight for the save.

In game two, the SFCC offense was held to one run on five hits. McWhirter and McGinnis each recorded a pair of hits, including a double. Anderson had a hit and drove in a run. McWhirter scored the only run.

Sophomore pitcher Roy Holcomb was the starter. He gave up nine runs, seven of which were earned on six hits in two innings pitched.

March 15 - Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas

SFCC defeated Hutchinson Community College 13-12 in a midweek contest.

Casto and Anderson hit home runs to lead the SFCC offense. Anderson also scored three runs and drove in three runs. McWhirter had three hits, including a double, three RBI, and scored two runs. Sophomore infielder Brandon Stahlman drove in two runs. The SFCC offense recorded 12 hits in the game.

Freshman pitcher Jack Lawton started and pitched four innings. He gave up two runs on four hits and struck out four. Freshman pitcher Zach Buschschulte picked up the win in relief. He pitched one inning, gave up one unearned run on two hits and struck out one. Escano pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save.

March 17 - St. Louis Community College at St. Louis

SFCC lost a pair of one run contests 2-1 and 8-7 in St. Louis. The doubleheader was part of the Region 16 schedule.

In game one, the SFCC offense was held to just one run on three hits. McWhirter hit a home run and recorded an RBI. Dillman and freshman Ben Haug recorded a hit apiece.

Carson went six innings on the mound. He allowed one run on three hits, struck out five and was given the loss.

In game two, Warkins had a pair of hits and an RBI. McGinnis had a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Haug had a pair of hits and an RBI. Freshman catcher Benit Thacker had two RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Andrew McLaughlin got the start and pitched five innings, gave up four runs on five hits and struck out eight. Buschschulte pitched 1.1 innings, gave up four runs, three of which were earned on five hits. Buschschulte was given the pitching loss.

March 19  - St. Louis Community College at Sedalia

SFCC (12-10, 3-3 in Region 16) swept a Region 16 doubleheader from St. Louis Community College by scores of 7-5 and 13-2 in five innings at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field.

In game one, Warkins had two hits, including a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Dillman hit a home run and two RBI. McWhirter contributed a double. Anderson and Haug added an RBI each.

Escano got the start on the mound and pitched four innings, allowed four runs on six hits, and struck out seven. Freshman pitcher Garret Lampert came out of the bullpen and pitched one inning, allowed three hits and one unearned run. Lawton slammed the door for SFCC and pitched two innings and struck out four batters to secure the victory.

In game two, the SFCC offense reaped 13 runs on five hits by taking advantage of 11 walks. McWhirter hit a home run and added four RBI. Warkins doubled, scored a pair of runs and added two RBI. Henson had a double, scored a team-high three runs and walked twice. Haug doubled, had two RBI and scored once.

Holcomb tossed a complete game for SFCC. He gave up two runs, scattered three hits and struck out five.
