SFCC sweeps East Central College

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners opened the home portion of their schedule with a 13-7 loss to Kansas City Kansas Community College on Tuesday, March 1.

Sophomore outfielder/infielder Jacob McWhirter led the SFCC offense with four hits and two RBI. Sophomore catcher Hamilton Anderson had a pair of hits and two RBI. Sophomore catcher/outfielder Zach Dillman hit a home run in the game. Freshman outfielder Caleb Casto registered two hits and scored twice.

Freshman pitcher Ben Haug got the start and pitched 2.2 innings. Haug allowed seven runs on eight hits in the no decision. Freshman pitcher Zach Buschschulte pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief, gave up three runs, and was given the loss.

March 2 East Central College at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field

SFCC (8-7) swept a doubleheader from East Central College by scores of 10-0, and 6-5 in a pair of seven inning contests at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field on Wednesday, March 2.

In game one, McWhirter led the SFCC offense with a home run and four RBI. Sophomore infielder Austin Warkins contributed three hits, including a double, scored three times, and totaled three RBI. Anderson doubled and had one RBI. Freshman infielder Conlan Downey had a pair of hits in the game.

Freshman pitcher Chase Carson went the distance for SFCC to pick up the victory.

In game two, Dillman registered a double, a home run, and scored three times. McWhirter had a pair of hits and two RBI. Casto hit a home run. Sophomore infielder Brayden McGinnis also hit a home run. Sophomore outfielder Zeke Henson recorded a double.

Freshman pitcher Hunter Tennison got the start for the Roadrunners. Tennison pitched 3.2 innings and allowed four runs on four hits and struck out six. Christian Whiting picked up the victory in relief. Whiting pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowed one run on three hits, and struck out three.
