SFCC uses home runs to win three of four games

February 20 Muskegon Community College at Versailles, Missouri

State Fair Community College (SFCC) split a doubleheader against Muskegon Community College, winning game one in five innings 15-4, because of the run rule. The Roadrunners lost game two 8-6. The games were scheduled to be played in Sedalia, but were moved because of field conditions.

SFCC recorded 14 hits and hit six home runs as a team in game one. Sophomore Austin Warkins hit a pair of home runs to go along with a double in the game. Warkins drove in a team-high four runs and scored three. Catcher/outfielder Zach Dillman also launched a pair of home runs, scored three runs, and had three RBI. Sophomore Brayden McGinnis recorded three hits, including a home run, drove in three runs and scored twice. Redshirt freshman Canton Sharp hit a home run and drove in three runs.

Freshman Chase Carson went the distance on the mound for SFCC to pick up his second victory on the season. Carson gave up four runs on five hits and struck out eight.

In game two, Dillman led the Roadrunners' offense with a pair of hits, including a home run, scored twice and drove in a run. Warkins and McGinnis each hit a home run in the game. McGinnis drove in two runs.

Roy Holcomb (0-2) got the start for the Roadrunners and pitched four innings, gave up six runs, five of which were earned and struck out seven. Holcomb was given the pitching loss.

 

February 21 Muskegon Community College at Versailles, Missouri

SFCC swept a doubleheader from Muskegon Community College 14-4 in six innings and 15-5 in six innings, because of the run rule on Monday afternoon, February 21 in Versailles, Missouri.

In game one, the Roadrunners hammered seven home runs, including a pair from Dillman with five runs batted in, and two runs scored. Warkins had three hits, including a home run, three runs batted in, and four runs scored. McGinnis had a pair of doubles and a home run. Freshman Conlan Downey had three hits. Sophomore Jacob McWhirter had a home run and two RBI. Sophomore Hamilton Anderson had a home run and a run batted in. Freshman Adam Webb had a home run and a pair of RBI.

Sophomore Antonio Escano (1-1) went the distance on the mound for the Roadrunners. Escano gave up four runs on six hits and struck out 12.

The Roadrunners (4-4) won the series and finished the doubleheader sweep with another good offensive performance that included nine more home runs.

Warkins hit two more home runs and drove in three. Dillman also hit two homeruns and drove in two more. Freshman Caleb Casto also had a pair of home runs and three RBI. McWhirter hit a home run and a double. Sharp hit a home run and drove in two runs. Anderson also hit a home run and drove in two.

Sophomore Andrew McLaughlin got the start for the Roadrunners. McLaughlin pitched 2.1 innings. McLaughlin gave up five runs on nine hits and struck out two. McLaughlin (1-1) was credited with the win.
