April 9 Des Moines Area Community College at Boone, Iowa

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners split a doubleheader against Des Moines Area Community College on Tuesday, April 9 in Boone, Iowa. SFCC dropped the first game 5-0 before bouncing back to win game two 2-0 in a pair of seven inning contests. Des Moines Area is currently receiving votes in the NJCAA Division II Baseball Rankings.

In game one, the SFCC offense was held to only five hits and struck out six times. Sophomore outfielder Brady Holden, freshman pitcher/Infielder Jake Lufft, sophomore infielder Kyle Clark, sophomore infielder Gavin Jones and freshman outfielder Brice Pannier each recorded a hit.

Sophomore pitcher Logan Bexten got the start on the mound for SFCC. He pitched five innings and gave up five runs; four earned on six hits. He was given the pitching loss.

"I thought we pitched extremely well with the exception of the first inning," said Roadrunners Baseball Head Coach Jud Kindle. "We just weren't able to get anything going offensively."

In game two, freshman utility player Ian Jacobs recorded a triple, an RBI, and a run scored. Jones had a hit and a run scored. Lufft had a hit. Freshman infielders Drew Perez and Malik Stevenson also registered a hit each in game two.

"It was really big for us to win game two and split the doubleheader," said Kindle. "We may not have been seeing the ball as well as we have been, but we were able to manufacture a win in game two."

Freshman pitcher Peyton Soria got the start on the mound for the Roadrunners. He pitched six innings, and struck out three. He also scattered two hits to pick up the victory. Freshman pitcher Alec Luyet pitched the final inning. He struck out two and earned the save.
