Baseball recaps April 19, 20, and 23

April 19, Wentworth Military Academy at Lexington, Missouri

The Roadrunners defeated the Red Dragons of Wentworth Military Academy 13-4. Wentworth scored a run in the first inning, and SFCC answered with three runs in the top of the second inning. The Red Dragons added one run in the bottom the second. At the end of two innings, SFCC led 3-2. 

The Roadrunners tacked on two runs in the third, one in the fourth and two in the top of the fifth inning. Wentworth cut the deficit to 8-4 at the end of five innings. SFCC added a run in the sixth and four in the seventh to finish the scoring. 

Freshman Zack Ehlen and sophomore Jake Quarti registered a team-high three hits apiece. Ehlen scored three runs and drove in one. Quarti scored a run and drove in a run. Freshman Tyler Crane drove in five runs and had two hits and a run scored. 

Sophomore Tanner Cantrell had two hits and two RBIs. Freshman Kenneth Prado had two hits and a run scored. Freshman Chase Swisher scored three runs. Ehlen, freshman D.J. McNew and Chase Swisher stole two bases each. As a team, SFCC stole 11 bases and pounded out 15 hits. 

Freshman Tyler Fennewald was the starting and winning pitcher. He pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs, and struck out two batters. 

April 20, Jefferson College at Dey Field, Liberty Park Stadium

The Roadrunners split the Region 16 doubleheader with the JC Vikings. SFCC lost game one 8-5 and won game two 3-1. In game one,

Jefferson scored two runs in the top of the second. The Roadrunners tied the game with two runs in the fourth. Jefferson scored two runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh to take an 8-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh. SFCC scored three runs in the seventh, making the final score 8-5. 

Freshman Jacob Clifton had two hits and two runs batted in to lead SFCC's offense. McNew and Prado also drove in a run each. 

Freshman pitcher Roberto Ramirez pitched five innings, struck out four and took the loss for SFCC. 

In game two, Jefferson scored a run in the top of the fifth inning. SFCC scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and one run in the bottom of the eighth for the win. 

Cantrell led the Roadrunners offensive with a solo home run. Freshman Steven Bradbury provided a hit and a run scored. McNew had a hit and a run scored. Freshman Derek Shikles had a hit and a run batted in. 

Freshman Chase Plymell pitched seven innings while scattering eight hits. He allowed one run, no earned runs and struck out five for the win. 

April 23, Jefferson College at Hillsboro, Missouri

This Region 16 doubleheader was originally scheduled for April 22 but moved to the next day because of the weather. Jefferson swept SFCC 4-1 and 7-3. 

In game one, the Roadrunners scored a run in the top of the first inning. Jefferson responded with two runs in the bottom of the second and added two runs in the bottom of the fourth. 

In game two, Jefferson scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning and added two in the bottom of the seventh. SFCC scored three runs in the top of the eighth. The Vikings added a run to finish the scoring in the bottom of the eighth inning. 

The Roadrunners record stands at 21-24, 12-20 in Region 16.
