Roadrunners baseball recaps April 11-15

Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) in Kansas, April 11

The Roadrunners returned to action April 11 against the KCKCC Blue Devils for a single nine-inning game. 

The Blue Devils scored two runs in the second inning and added one in the third. SFCC scored four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. The Blue Devils scored two runs in the sixth and took back the lead 5-4. The Roadrunners tied the game at five with a single run in the top of the eighth. The Blue Devils scored a run in the ninth for a 6-5 win. 

SFCC freshman Zack Ehlen had four hits. He drove in a run and stole two bases. Freshman Chase Swisher recorded three hits and two RBIs. Sophomore Tanner Cantrell and freshman Jacob Clifton had two hits each. Freshman Derek Shikles drove in two runs. 

Missouri Valley College JV (MVC) at Dey Field, Liberty Park Stadium, April 12

SFCC hosted the MVC JV on April 12 in a single game and won 12-2. Ehlen had an outstanding day at the plate recording four hits. He had a double, a homerun and scored three runs. Seven of the nine starting Roadrunners recorded a hit. 

Freshman Dalton Zaremba had a pair of doubles. Clifton had a double. Seven different Roadrunners drove in at least one run. Sophomore Derek Miller stole three bases. 

Freshman Tyler Fennewald was starting pitcher for SFCC; he pitched five innings, allowing four hits and one run. He struck out two batters and picked up the win. 

St. Charles Community College (SCC) at Cottleville, Missouri, April 13

SFCC traveled to Cottleville to take on the SCC Cougars in a Region 16 doubleheader April 13. SFCC swept the Cougars 12-4 and 13-12. 

In the opening game, SFCC scored a run in each of the first three innings and tacked on five runs in the fourth inning. St. Charles scored two runs in the sixth inning. SFCC added four runs in the seventh. The Cougars added two runs in the bottom of the seventh. 

Freshman D.J. McNew had three hits, one to go along with two RBIs and two runs scored and a homerun. Ehlen continued his hot hitting with two hits, including a homerun. He scored twice and drove in two runs. Freshman Tyler Crane had two hits, including a homerun, four RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman Kenneth Prado had two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Miller contributed two hits and an RBI. Shikles had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. 

Freshman Roberto Ramirez was starting pitcher for SFCC. He tossed all seven innings, allowing four runs and three earned runs. 

In game two, SFCC led 4-0 after two innings. The Cougars answered with three runs in the third inning. SFCC added two runs in the fourth. The Cougars scored a run in the fourth making the score 6-4. 

SFCC added a run in the sixth and the seventh. The Cougars exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh, but SFCC answered with five runs in the eighth. The Cougars scored a run in the bottom of the eighth, but SFCC hung on for the victory. 

Crane and freshman Chase Swisher led the Roadrunners offense with four hits each. Crane scored three runs. Swisher scored two runs. Prado had three hits and a team-leading four RBIs. The Roadrunners pounded out 19 hits as a team. Cantrell drove in two runs. McNew drove in three and hit a homerun. Swisher drove in three runs. 

SFCC freshman Chase Plymell pitched six innings, allowing six hits and four runs. He earned a no decision. Freshman Alex Dyer picked up the win in relief. He allowed one unearned run in one inning. 

St. Charles Community College (SCC) at Dey Field, Liberty Park Stadium, April 15

SFCC hosted SCC in an important Region 16 doubleheader in Sedalia. SFCC swept the contests 3-2 and 13-2. 

In game one, SFCC scored a run in the second inning. St. Charles responded with single runs in the third and fourth innings. SFCC tied the game with a run in the sixth and scored the winning run in the seventh. 

SFCC recorded four hits as a team, including homeruns from Prado and McNew. Ehlen and Swisher recorded one hit each. 

SFCC sophomore Payton Rawlins went the distance on the mound. He pitched seven innings, giving up two earned runs. He recorded seven strikeouts. 

In game two, St. Charles scored a run in the first inning. SFCC responded with a single run in the second and added two runs in the third and two in the fourth. St. Charles scored a run in the top of the fifth. SFCC scored eight runs in the fifth to win by the run rule in five innings 

Swisher led the Roadrunners offensively with three hits. He drove in three runs and scored twice. Cantrell had three hits, including a homerun and drove in three runs. McNew and Clifton had two hits and scored two runs each. McNew hit a homerun. Freshman Steven Bradbury drove in three runs. 

Freshman Jake McMahill pitched a complete game, allowing one hit. He gave up two runs, one earned run and struck out five. 

The Roadrunners record stands at 19-21, 11-17 in Region 16.
