Roadrunners baseball recaps March 24-26

The Roadrunners traveled to Park Hills for another key Region 16 series against the Mineral Area College Cardinals. The teams split four games, which were originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, but the Saturday games were pushed to Sunday because of rain. 

In game one on Friday, SFCC scored four runs in the first inning. The Cardinals scored a run in the second and five in the fourth to emerge with a 6-4 victory. 

SFCC sophomore Tanner Cantrell hit a home run and recorded three RBIs. Freshman Chris De Los Santos recorded two hits and an RBI. Freshman Zack Ehlen scored a run and had two hits. 

Freshman pitcher Roberto Ramirez (3-2) pitched four innings allowing six runs and two earned runs. He took the loss for SFCC. 

In the second game, offense was hard to come by for both teams. Mineral got a run in the first inning. SFCC answered with single runs in the third and fourth innings to take a brief advantage. The Cardinals tied the game with a run in the fifth. SFCC scored the game-winning run in the top of the eighth to win the game 3-2. 

Freshman Derek Shikles recorded a hit and an RBI in game two. De Los Santos had two hits and a run scored. Ehlen and Cantrell recorded two hits each and an RBI. 

Freshman Jake McMahill pitched game for the Roadrunners. He allowed two runs while scattering five hits and struck out eight batters. 

In the third game, SFCC scored two runs in the fifth and sixth innings and tacked on five in the seventh to take an 11-3 lead. The Cardinals scored two runs in the final inning. SFCC won 11-7. 

Cantrell hit another homerun, had three hits, drove in four runs and scored twice. Freshman Tyler Crane had three hits, scored three times and drove in a run. Freshman Jacob Clifton had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run. Sophomore Derek Miller had two hits, scored two runs and drove in a run. Ehlen had two RBIs. 

Freshman Chase Plymell pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs, four earned runs, and struck out six. 

In game four, Mineral Area came out on top 11-3. The Cardinals scored single runs in the first, third, fourth, fifth and the sixth innings. They added six runs in the eighth. SFCC scored three runs in the fifth inning. 

Ehlen had two hits and scored a run. Crane had two hits and a run scored. Freshman Andru Baxley recorded a hit and two RBIs. 

Sophomore Payton Rawlins pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up five runs and four earned runs. He struck out three, and took the loss for SFCC. 

SFCC is now 11-15 overall and 4-12 in Region 16.
