State Fair Community College announced an expansion of sports programs earlier this spring that included cross country and track and field. Former Smith-Cotton High School coach Brad Hagedorn has been hired as SFCC's coach.
"The 2021-2022 school year will mark the inaugural seasons of the SFCC Track and Field and Cross Country teams," said Hagedorn. "Word of the new programs is getting out and a lot of athletes from schools across Missouri are interested in competing at the college level. It is an opportunity that many didn't think they would have."
Hagedorn is looking for more team-oriented athletes to round out the new men's and women's programs as they head into their seasons beginning with cross country in the fall. The track and field competition season will begin in January. He wants to organize his recruits and capitalize on talent in the field and classroom.
"We have had a great response so far and have had student-athletes contact us and commit. However, we are still looking for motivated individuals to complete our teams," said Hagedorn.
Any student-athlete interested in joining the new athletic programs at SFCC should complete the online Prospective Student Athlete Form by going to sfccmoroadrunners.com and scroll down to Become a Roadrunner Recruit Me. Other new sports to begin at SFCC in 2021-2022 are Clay Target Shooting (Sedalia and Lake of the Ozarks campuses) and Esports. Track and cross country competitors can also contact Coach Hagedorn at bhagedorn@sfccmo.edu or call (660) 596-7440.
