Lady Roadrunners Soccer Recaps Sept. 24-29

September 24 Metropolitan Community College at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners lost 1-0 to the Metropolitan College Wolves from Kansas City, Missouri on Tuesday, Sept. 24 in a Region 16 match at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex.

The Wolves got on the scoreboard with 35 minutes and 36 seconds remaining in the second half. SFCC had opportunities late, including a shot that just slid by the post in the closing minutes that would have tied the game.

"I felt like in the first 20 minutes of the game we created some chances," said Lady Roadrunners Associate Head Coach Dan Martin. "We had scoring chances to start the second half and created chances at the end. Metropolitan finished one chance and we didn't finish any. We are doing a lot of things well, but we're just not capitalizing."

Sophomore forward Ria Kessell of Jefferson City and sophomore midfielder Melissa Martinez of Bolivia registered two shots each to tie for the team lead. As a team, SFCC had six shots, four of which were on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Curphey of Raymore got the start in goal for SFCC. She had four saves in the game.

The game was scoreless at halftime. The Cougars scored seven times in the final 30 minutes to pick up the victory.

"After we gave up the first goal, it just snowballed," said Martin. "We just couldn't get back in the game at all."
