Lady Roadrunners Fall in Region Semifinal

Women's Soccer vs. NEO, 2018

The top seeded State Fair Community College (SFCC) (6-9) Lady Roadrunners' soccer team saw their postseason come to an end with a 5-1 loss to the fourth seeded St. Charles Community College Cougars on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex.

St. Charles scored twice in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. SFCC seized the momentum back when freshman forward Alys Beadle of England found the back of the net on a pass from freshman midfielder Diana Martinez of Bolivia.

Just a few minutes later, St. Charles took control of the game with a goal on a counterattack. St. Charles added two more goals to provide the winning margin.

"We had a couple of mistakes that put us behind at halftime," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "We were able to put pressure on them and convert on opportunities."

Freshman goalkeepers Samantha Curphey of Kansas City and Atziry Plascencia of El Paso, Texas once again split time in goal for SFCC.

Coach Beltran was pleased with the things that his team was able to accomplish this season.

"This is a rough way to end our season, but it has been a heck of a ride," said Beltran. "I was pleased with the way our team came together. If you look at the entire body of work, they accomplished so many things. We have a solid foundation to build on for the future."

Coach Beltran was especially pleased with the efforts of his sophomore class.

"Our sophomore class has done something really special the last two years," said Beltran. "They have grown as people and players. They have helped our program mature and everything that we accomplish in the future is all built on the foundation from those girls."
